It’s Friday and I’m cooked.
I’ve been on the road for the week, facilitating off-sites and workshops in Wollongong and Brisbane.
It’s work I genuinely love doing - helping different businesses with work that propels them forward. In a workshop environment, my style is to combine structure with spontaneity. Make sure we’re heading to an outcome but to get there in a flexible and intuitive way.
Mentally and physically it can take a toll - especially doing a couple back to back.
I tell you this not for sympathy (I’m in a very privileged position) but to help define what success looks like to me.
In order, it’s…
To be healthy and happy
To find satisfaction in my work
To be of value for the people I work with and for
To provide for my family
So I can be healthy and happy
Notice what’s at the top and bottom? It’s no coincidence.
I do find that the places I’m the most unhealthy is actually while I’m travelling for work.
I’m more likely to eat junk food because I’m in the car and a drive-thru coffee can quickly turn into an added hamburger.
I’m more likely to drink alcohol because I’m enjoying the company of colleagues or clients.
and I’m more likely to not exercise because I’m cramming a heap of work in at both ends of the day and didn’t pack my runners etc etc.
The excuses go on.
But to achieve success (see the list above) I have to do better.
Next week I’m off overseas for a work trip, and here’s what I’m going to do.
I won’t eat junk. Wholesome
I’ll moderate any alcohol. One drink is enough, and not every day.
And I’ll walk… and I’ll publish how many kilometres I’ve done when I return.
So next week there’ll be a short break from fresh editions of Morning Musely and instead I’ll reheat some posts from earlier.
I hope next week is successful for you too.
I will be checking on your fitness schedule. Good luck. JC.
