Music linked to a lower risk of Dementia
It's not just for enjoying in the moment
Good morning!
I read on the weekend that Dementia has taken over Heart Disease as the Number 1 killer of Australians.
Having done some project work with the wonderful team at Dementia Australia I can tell you that we don’t spend anywhere near enough time or money or research in this space.
This piece in the Washington Post yesterday made me sit up and take notice…
‘Regularly listening to music is linked to a lower risk of developing dementia, according to a new study.
It continues…
“People who listened to music most days slashed their risk of developing dementia by 39 percent compared with those who did not regularly listen to music, the study found.
Researchers followed participants to investigate what factors are associated with the risks of developing various diseases — and how much lifestyle changes could make a difference.
They found that of the 10,893 participants in the study, the 7,030 who said they listen to music most days had the biggest drop in dementia risk compared with people who were not as frequent music listeners. The study did not specify what kind of music.”
I’m an avid music listener but maybe like you I don’t listen to as much as I did when I was younger.
Spoken word audio (radio, podcasts) seem to dominate my day now.
So how about this one thing to do today…
Put on a banger you haven’t played in ages.
Here’s mine.
Don’t judge.
Tell me what yours is…
See you in the morning,
Wade
