How to enjoy the week ahead
Because I actually do like Mondays
Have you heard of the ‘Sunday Sads’? Otherwise known as Sunday night stress or Sunday night anxiety.
Whatever you call it, it’s a feeling of overwhelm about the week ahead.
I can honestly say I don’t recall ever having it.
That could be because I’ve been lucky enough to be employed in the media industry since age 20. It’s all I really wanted to do and I’ve been lucky enough to have had steady employment for most my career.
Sure there’s been times where I haven’t felt that excited about the week ahead. Maybe due to a particularly stressful situation unfolding or a meeting I wasn’t looking forward to.
But the trick for me has always been to look forward.
I rarely look back - either to reflect on past success or grieve over past failures.
Forward thinking also allows you to see beyond the week ahead. Sure this week might not look pleasant but the week after might be better.
So you’re not going to Hawaii this week on holiday, but you will be on holiday again sometime this year - even if it’s just for a few days off.
Sunday nights for me are a chance to anticipate the week ahead by accepting the reality of it.
Some of it will be good. Some of it will be shit.
But there are other weeks ahead to look forward to, right after this one.
